    Move the vehicle to the safest position you can reach. If you are on a motorway, follow Highway Code rules 274 to 287: get out of the vehicle on the passenger side, get behind the safety barrier, dial 999. Do not attempt to make repairs on a live carriageway.

    What happens after the recovery

    On handover the operator hands over the recovery sheet and emails a copy. The recovery sheet is the document your insurer asks for if you are claiming the cost back, and it is the document the receiving garage uses to log the vehicle in.

    Myth: A recovery operator can take your car from a public road without your permission. Reality: Police have a statutory removal power under section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988. A recovery operator alone does not have that power; they act on a police instruction or a council instruction.

    How cheap car tow differs from a breakdown subscription

    A breakdown subscription (AA, RAC, Green Flag, Start Rescue and similar) is an annual product paid upfront against the chance of needing a recovery. cheap car tow is the opposite: nothing upfront, pay per use at the published rate. The two are complementary; if you already hold a subscription, use it first for in-scope work and use us when the subscription does not cover the scenario.

    Common gaps in subscriptions where a per-use booking helps: a relative needs a tow but is not the named subscriber; the recovery destination is outside the subscription radius; the vehicle is at home (some policies exclude home start); the vehicle is towing a trailer or caravan and the policy excludes the combination.

    When can I remove a vehicle from my private land?

    The landowner can authorise removal where the parking is unauthorised and where lawful signage is in place. The PoFA 2012 Schedule 4 framework allows keeper liability for unpaid parking charges; physical removal still requires landowner authority in writing.

    Do I need signage before removal?

    Yes. Lawful signage at all entry points and in sight from each bay is required for keeper liability to apply. The British Parking Association and International Parking Community publish the code-of-practice signage specification.

    Can a tenant be removed for parking in the wrong bay?

    A tenant who has parked in another tenant's allocated bay is best resolved by lease enforcement first; removal is a last resort. We will only execute where the landowner or managing agent confirms the bay allocation is contractual.

    What about disabled badge holders?

    A vehicle displaying a valid Blue Badge in a designated disabled bay is not removed. Where a non-badged vehicle is in a disabled bay the removal proceeds under the landowner authority.

    Where does the removed vehicle go?

    The operator's secure compound. The keeper is notified by post once the DVLA keeper data is returned, and the release fee plus daily storage is collected before release.

    How much can I charge a driver for the removal?

    Removal fees on private land must be set out in the signage and the operator's code-of-practice schedule. Overcharging is a common complaint to the Independent Appeals Service for parking on private land.

    Can a council bailiff remove a vehicle on private land?

    A council bailiff acts under a different legal framework (the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007). Private land removal under PoFA 2012 is a separate route and the two are not interchangeable.
